     Are you a currently enrolled North Harris College (Parkway and Carver centers included) student?  Are you in the process of deciding on a career, but don't have the time for a face-to-face appointment?  Then you might want to take advantage of distance career advising. 

     Please read the following carefully, as these guidelines will help you decide whether or not distance career advising will be right for you.  If you decide that a face-to-face appointment would be a better option, please call the Counseling Center at 281.618.5481, and tell them you would like to see a career counselor.

 What You Must Have 

  1. Access to a computer and printer.
  2. Internet access with an e-mail account.  Note:  NHC students are eligible for free e-mail accounts.
  3. Good written communication skills.
  4. A phone
  5. Proof that you are a currently enrolled NHC student.
  6. The ability to send and receive e-mail attachments in Microsoft Word.
  7. Adobe Reader 7.0, to receive PDF documents.  This is a free download from www.adobe.com
  8. Motivation and dependability

What You Can Expect 

  1. Communication will be delivered through one—or both—of the following, which will be mutually agreed upon by the student and the counselor:
    1. E-mail
    2. Telephone (appointment only)
  2. Phone appointments will be scheduled during the counselor’s normal working hours.
  3. Telephone sessions will last no longer than 50 minutes.
  4. E-mails will be answered within 24 hours during the counselor’s normal working hours. 
  5. No service will be available when the college is closed on Fridays during the summer, weekends, any holidays during which the college is closed, or closure due to any kind of emergency.
  6. Utmost confidentiality will be maintained regarding anything that is discussed. However, there are some legal exceptions which you will read about when an informed consent document is sent to you.
