If I am still in high school can I enroll to take

Computer Science courses?

 

Yes, you may qualify under NHMCCD

exceptional admissions program. To qualify for

exceptional admission, students must meet both

the state Texas Higher Education Assessment

(THEA) and the college-level placement

requirement.

 

Do I have to be in the computer science degree

program to take computer science courses?

 

No, you can take one or more of the computer

science courses without declaring a major. You

will have the added advantage that these courses

will transfer to four year institutions.

 

I completed Pre-Calculus and Calculus I in

high school. Do I have to enroll in these courses

again to enter the program?

 

If you pass the national College Level

Examination Program (CLEP) tests for College

Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and

Calculus; NHMCCD will award degree credits for

these courses, -once application has been made at

NHMCCD and you have completed 6 college

credits any credit by exam will appear on the college

transcript.

 

What activities can I be involved in?

 

Montgomery College has the Association for

Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter

and Tomball College has the Computer Society

for students in the computer field. Founded in

1947, ACM is a major force in advancing the

skills of information technology professionals and

students worldwide. The association holds programming

competitions, conferences, and publications.

In addition, students will have the opportunity

of internships in businesses in Montgomery

and Harris counties.
